Pharmacogenomics studies patients' genetic makeup to determine how they might respond to medications. These tests uncover whether patients produce enzymes to break down or use medication compounds effectively and how well their bodies will excrete them. They also evaluate some genes which predict efficacy and/or side effects with certain medication classes. Using these results, providers can better determine which medications work with clients. This will end the costly and exhausting trial-and-error process of treating clients. This can be a welcomed relief for both providers and clients alike.
