Also known as drug use disorder involves the abuse or dependence on a substance used to produce a euphoric state and usually results in addiction. One drug that has gained a rise in use is opioids. Opioids are a class of drugs that include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers available legally by prescription, such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, and many others. There is an opioid abuse epidemic in Georgia and throughout the entire country.
